On 10 May 2026 passengers began disembarking the MV Hondius cruise ship in Tenerife in a multi-nation repatriation operation, after a hantavirus outbreak that has reported 8 cases including 3 deaths since 2 May, with WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on site stressing this is not another COVID.
